Good 4.5

The Brompton Electric C-Line Explore is very similar to the H6L and also looks very similar to the other bikes that Brompton have previously named. It is a much lighter bike than the previous one weighing in at only 17.4kg with the battery attached.

It has a lovely paint design and is extremely enjoyable to ride, easy to store at work or at home if you have little storage and perfect for city trips or short commuter journeys.

Brompton Electric C-Line Explore e-Bike Motor, Battery & Range

The Brompton battery is mounted to the front of the bike and comes with a carrying case so that you can easily carry the battery whenever you lock your bike up and need to take it with you, or need to charge it at work. To do this there is a release button and you just pull the battery away.

There are LEDs to show you how much life is in the battery and also which mode you are using, you can charge your portable devices from it too with the USB port that is available.

Brompton claims that you can get 40-50 miles range from one charge and of course this will all depend on the terrain you are riding on and whether you are relying on the assist modes which there are 3 of.

Even though the Brompton doesn’t look like it would be a fast bike with the ability to fold it and its small wheels, it is, the smaller wheels in fact help you gain more speed but be careful on rougher terrains as it is not suitable for an off-road trail. The motor is brilliant with the 3 modes that you can use, the first mode offers a 30/70 split the rider providing 70 percent of the power whilst the motor contributes the other 30, the second level is a 50/50 split and the third is a 70/30 split where there is 70 percent assist. The motor provides a maximum speed of 15 mph.

Brompton Electric C-Line Explore e-Bike Quality & Build

With the bike looking similar to the H6L, the C Line Explore folds up and down very quickly with the simple of of the quick release lever that is positioned behind the seat tube, the rear wheel goes beneath the frame and can be used as a kickstand when you are not moving the bike, from there you can use the lever for the handlebar and the frame to fold it all down so it is compact enough to store and travel with easily. With the C-Line Explore the battery sits in a small satchel that clips onto the front fork, the battery removes easily from the front of the bike making it simple when locking your bike up outside. With the battery removed the weight of the bike comes down to 14.5kg.

If you wanted to save some money you could opt for the Urban bike instead as it has only two gears.
